With an engine speed range up to 3.000 rpm, the SDI 50-4 offers some additional thrust whenever needed, e.g. for steaming against wind and seas. The overall engine speed level is still low, but slightly higher than in the case of SDI 40-4 as a lower-pitched propeller is needed in order to let the engine arrive at the rated 3.000 rpm and 37 kW (50hp).

 

Easily meets EU standards and all expected future emission standards for marine engines.

The Saildrive

 

We have not invented this type of drive unit, but we refined it and offer it in combination with our very silent engines to explore new fields of application. This has even caused owners to install Volkswagen Marine Saildrive packages aboard motor boats which were originally designed for V-drive systems. The resulting reduction in noise and vibration levels is very hard to achieve with conventional shaft drives. The Volkswagen Marine Saildrive is available with all variants of our for cylinder, i.e. with ratings from 29 kW (40 hp) up to 55 kW (75 hp).
