A professionally designed sea/raw water circulation starts with a thru-hull fitting featuring a scoop strainer (5) with slotted holes in order to prevent larger debris from entering the water intake. When installing the scoop strainer on motorboats you should always direct the slotted holes to the front meaning the forward direction of the boat. In the case of installing the scoop strainer on sailing boats you should direct it to the aft of the boat.

 

For security reasons you must be able to close the>That is why the next component is a> valve into which a hose connector must be screwed using an adequate sealant.

 

A stable and suction-resistant water hose with a spiral reinforcement forms the connection to the hose connector of the raw water strainer (3). The transparent hose allows visual control of blockages.

 

For security reasons the connections between the hoses on the raw water side should always be fixed with two hose clamps.



The raw water strainer (3) is available in two versions; one with a horizontal water intake and the other with a vertical water intake. The installation of the raw water strainer should be made at least 15 cm above the water surface. Due to the stable and transparent carbon cap, it is possible to visually control whether there are any contaminants in the water. The strainer screen made of stainless steel can be removed for cleaning.

 

A careful and well dimensioned installation excluding any leakages is necessary to sufficiently build up the reserves of the cooling system. Furthermore a proper installation ensures longevity of the raw water pump impeller as well as the connected components.
